Fat grafting is a procedure that involves harvesting a patient’s own fat from an area where there is excess and transplanting it to another area.
Fat grafting (also known as lipofilling) allows for the restoration, repair, or enhancement of specific body areas using your own fat. This solution has been used for years, is well-researched, and is safe. Since the material used comes from your own body, there is no risk of allergic reactions.
Lipofilling naturally helps address issues such as wrinkles, asymmetrical breasts, or loss of skin firmness. Additionally, it allows you to remove fat from areas where it is in excess, such as the abdomen or thighs.
Moreover, fat tissue contains stem cells—primitive, universal structures that can differentiate into nearly any tissue in the body. As a result, they have strong regenerative properties, and during lipofilling, they stimulate skin regeneration at the injection site, such as the face.
Fat grafting is a minimally invasive procedure that leaves only small incisions at the place where the fat is harvested. Since the doctor does not significantly interfere with your body, recovery time is short, and the risk of complications is minimal. A large amount of fat cannot be transplanted in one session, as the fat cells could die. Therefore, our specialists will carefully select the optimum amount of transplanted material to address your specific issue.
Fat grafting is an effective method for restoring facial contours, correcting volume loss, or filling wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial or eyelid-cheek grooves. With this technique, you can lift sagging cheeks, firm loose skin, correct facial asymmetry, and smooth and brighten the tear trough area. Lipofilling naturally restores a youthful, refreshed appearance to your face.
Fat tissue serves as an excellent filler to enhance your breasts while maintaining a natural appearance. The procedure is safe and minimally invasive, but only a limited amount of fat can be transferred at one time. Thus, the result may be subtler than with implants—if you wish to enhance the effect, you can repeat the lipofilling.
Breast enhancement is not the only benefit. Fat grafting can also correct breast asymmetry, improve firmness, or even reconstruct the breast after a mastectomy. The results are visible immediately, but within the first few weeks, the body absorbs about 40% of the injected fat. You will need to wait approximately three months to see the final result.
Using fat tissue, you can sculpt your figure into the shape you desire. Injecting fat into the buttocks firms and enlarges them while maintaining their natural appearance. They gain a fuller shape, and skin tightness and elasticity improve as well. All of this allows you to get the perfect proportions of the body.
Fat tissue can also be grafted to other areas of the body—wherever asymmetry can be corrected this way. For example, it is an effective method for filling in atrophic or burn scars that cause skin indentations.
During the consultation, our doctor will discuss the details of the procedure and outline the expected results. The doctor will go over your medical history to rule out any contraindications. Together, you will decide from which areas fat will be harvested and where and for what purpose it will be transplanted. The doctor will also provide you with all the necessary information regarding pre-procedure preparation.
Fat grafting does not require special preparation. Your overall health must be good, and if you smoke, you should stop at least a month before the procedure. It is also important to stabilize body weight, as weight fluctuations can negatively affect the results of lipofilling. Additionally, during the consultation, the doctor may order necessary tests, such as blood work, clotting factors or breast ultrasound.
Fat is harvested from the selected area of the body where there is excess – usually the abdomen, back, or thighs. Depending on the extent of the procedure, it is performed under local or general anesthesia. The fat is suctioned using special cannulas and then prepared for grafting, which includes centrifuging and purifying it from damaged cells. Next, the doctor injects the prepared material into the selected area.
The duration of the procedure depends on its scope and the targeted body area. Facial lipofilling typically takes around an hour, while fat grafting for breast enhancement can take about three hours.
In case of lipofilling of smaller areas, such as the face, you can go home on the day of the procedure. If general anesthesia is used, you will stay in the clinic overnight. During the first few days of recovery, regularly disinfect the cannula entry sites and avoid applying any cosmetics to the area. Also, ensure the proper hydration of your body.
For the first few weeks, it is advisable to wear compression garments over areas where fat was suctioned. This will help reduce swelling and contour your figure. When fat grafting is used for breast augmentation, it is recommended to wear a properly selected bra, which can only be removed for bathing or changing the dressing. Avoid sun exposure to the treated area—protect your skin by using high-SPF sunscreen. Also, refrain from physical exertion, swimming pools, and saunas.
The first results of the procedure are visible almost immediately, but the full results will be apparent once the swelling subsides. For wrinkle filling and breast augmentation, the final result will be visible after approximately three months.
Lipofilling provides long-lasting results, which can last for several years. However, be mindful of significant weight changes, as transplanted fat reacts to them similarly to the fat in other parts of your body. Therefore, significant weight loss may reduce the effects of the procedure.
