Eye Lift Surgery

The condition of the eyelids plays a significant role in a youthful appearance, especially for women.

Eye Lift Surgery

Dark circles and bags under the eyes can be unappealing, and fine lines, wrinkles, as well as drooping upper eyelids and corners, do not enhance our looks.

Typically, these issues begin to appear between the ages of 35 and 45. They largely depend on genetic factors, but a woman’s lifestyle also plays a role. However, in some cases, an eye lift, also known as blepharoplasty, can be performed at a younger age – for example, in the case of fatty hernias.

The procedure can involve the upper, lower, or both eyelids. The surgery aims to remove excess eyelid skin and wrinkles around the eyes.

Types of Eyelid Surgery

  • Transconjunctival
This type of blepharoplasty is considered one of the most delicate and minimally invasive procedures, recommended before the age of 40 when the skin is still firm, not sagging, and recovers quickly. The surgery is performed through the eye’s conjunctiva, without external incisions or stitches. Fat deposits, commonly known as “fat pads”, are removed, eliminating the “bags” and rejuvenating the face.
  • Upper Eyelid Surgery
The procedure removes excess skin above the eyeball by trimming it away. It can also include lifting the eyebrows and correcting both the movable and immovable eyelids. The incision is typically made along the natural skin fold. It eliminates skin sagging, puffiness and wrinkles. The incision is made under the eyelash line and extends 1 cm beyond the outer corner of the eye.
  • Classic (circular)
This procedure is suitable for individuals with pronounced age-related changes, marked sagging or bags. It combines elements of both upper and lower blepharoplasty as described above.

Consultations

If you decide to undergo this surgery, a consultation with our surgeon will be necessary. During the consultation, the nature of the procedure will be discussed, all individual aspects will be explained, and you will reach a consensus with the doctor about the desired outcome.

A single procedure can correct only the upper or lower eyelid, or it can be a comprehensive treatment, such as removing signs of aging and correcting “aging” eyelid.

Before the Procedure

Before undergoing blepharoplasty, it is recommended to undergo certain tests, which our surgeon will explain during the initial consultation. Tests before eyelid surgery may include ECG, blood tests, including tests for HIV, hepatitis B and C, a urinalysis, and an eye examination. The optic nerve, oculomotor nerve, and eyelid tone must also be examined.

Based on the results of the tests and the degree of age-related changes, the plastic surgeon will select the appropriate method of blepharoplasty to achieve the most desired effect. During the first visit, the surgeon will give detailed instructions on how to prepare for the surgery.

Several restrictions must be followed to ensure the body is ready for the procedure and to speed up the recovery.

From two to three weeks before plastic surgery, avoid alcohol, smoking, aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

  • Ten days before the scheduled surgery, exclude chocolate and citrus fruits from your diet.
  • Twenty-four hours before the procedure, avoid smoked, spicy, and fatty foods, as well as coffee.

The Procedure

Depending on the complexity and scope of the procedure, the surgeon’s work can take between 1 to 3 hours. The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia.

Blepharoplasty is considered a minor surgical procedure, generally well-tolerated by patients, with a short recovery period. Eyelid surgery not only requires excellent surgical skills, but also the ability to precisely calculate and remove excess tissue to achieve an ideal result that fully satisfies the patient.

After the Procedure

In most cases, no hospital stay is necessary after the procedure, and the patient returns home the same day. Recovery lasts from 1 to 3 weeks, depending on the type of blepharoplasty chosen by the surgeon. It should be noted that bruising and swelling may occur in the first few days.

As any plastic surgery, blepharoplasty requires the patient to follow specific guidelines during the recovery period and adhere to surgeon’s recommendations, as this affects the final outcome of the surgery. Be prepared to avoid saunas, baths, swimming pools, sunbathing, and cosmetic treatments around eyelids, as well as activities that strain the eyes (such as crafts or reading), etc. for some time. It is also forbidden to consume salty foods and alcoholic beverages.

The effects of the surgery will last for about 10 years. The earlier the procedure is performed, the longer the result will last. In general, such corrections can be done 3 to 5 times.
