Face lifting

For years, lifting has been one of the most effective methods to refresh and rejuvenate facial appearance. Most commonly, it is chosen by individuals aged 40 to 65. Additionally, it can be performed on younger patients who have excess skin due to significant weight loss, for example. The effects of the procedure are spectacular – the skin becomes firm and tight, sagging, flaccid folds disappear, wrinkles are smoothed, and facial contours are sharpened. After the procedure, patients often appear 10–15 years younger. What is important, such a result lasts for a long time without the need to repeat the procedure.

Face lifting

The procedure involves tightening facial tissues in an upper-posterior direction by removing excess skin and smoothing out wrinkles, which is aimed at rejuvenating the face.

Face lifting – General Information

Classic face lifting is a surgical procedure during which the doctor removes excess skin and appropriately tightens the remaining tissue. This smooths out wrinkles, restores the face’s original shape and gives it a rested, youthful appearance.

We also offer non-invasive facial lifting using the state-of-the-art HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) technique, which stimulates collagen production in the skin. Collagen synthesis in the body begins to decrease after the age of 25, leading to the first signs of aging. Collagen is responsible for the firmness, elasticity and tension of the skin, so when it starts to diminish, the skin becomes flabby and wrinkled. The HIFU technique improves skin density and firmness, and reduces the visibility of wrinkles.

Consultations

During the consultation, the doctor will conduct a medical interview, assess your overall health condition, and rule out potential contraindications. They will also provide you with all information about the planned procedure and address any concerns you may have. You will discuss the expected effects, as well as pre- and post-procedure recommendations.

Before the Procedure

A surgical face lift is an invasive procedure, so before it is performed, you need to undergo laboratory tests, including a complete blood count, a urinalysis, and ECG. The doctor will give you detailed instructions during the consultation. In contrast, non-invasive lifting does not require any special preparation.

The Procedure

Invasive face lifting involves making small incisions in the skin around the temple area, along the hairline and behind the ears. The doctor uses an endoscope, which makes the incisions small and barely visible. Next, the skin is separated from the underlying tissue, tightened, and the excess is removed. The doctor also reshapes subcutaneous tissue and tightens muscles, giving the face a proper contour and youthful appearance. Surgical facial lifting is performed under general anesthesia and requires a short stay in the clinic.

Non-invasive face lifting is performed using the HIFU Ultraformer III device. It generates a high-frequency ultrasonic wave that penetrates all layers of the skin. The energy stimulates collagen production in the skin, which improves its tension and reduces the visibility of wrinkles. Non-invasive face lifting does not require any recovery period – you can return to your daily activities immediately after the procedure.

After the Procedure

After a surgical facial lifting, the stay in the clinic usually lasts 1 day. During this time, you may still have drains, which remove fluid accumulating under the skin. These will be removed before you go home. A few days later, you will have a follow-up visit with the doctor, when they remove the stitches and assess the healing process.

For the first 2–3 weeks, the face will be swollen and bruising may occur. During recovery, it is crucial to follow the doctor’s recommendations – this will help you achieve the best results from the procedure. The key points to follow for several weeks after surgery are:

  • Plenty of rest – avoid excessive effort, intense physical activity and stress
  • Sun protection – protect your skin with high SPF cream and avoid direct sun exposure
  • Gentle care – wash your face with gentle movements, avoid excessive pressure. Follow the doctor’s recommendations for postoperative wound care and use gentle moisturizing cosmetics they recommend
  • Avoiding risk factors – if you smoke, quit before the procedure and refrain from returning to smoking after the surgery. One of the many negative effects of smoking is the deterioration of wound healing. Also avoid alcohol, which delays the reduction of swelling,
  • Postoperative physiotherapy – lymphatic massage stimulates blood and lymph circulation, helping to reduce swelling and heal wounds. For a few weeks after the procedure, wearing a compression band is also recommended.

The first effects of facial lifting will be visible after about 2–3 weeks when the swelling disappears. The full result will be visible after a few months. This period may vary depending on the individual body predispositions, so it is worth waiting patiently for the final outcome. Especially since the effects last for a long time – even 10–15 years.

In the case of a HIFU lifting, you will notice the difference immediately after the procedure. Over time, the effect will intensify, as collagen fibers rebuild over approximately 3–6 months. The results of the procedure last for about 2 years.

Contraindications

As with any invasive procedure, facial lifting also has its contraindications. These include:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Uncontrolled chronic diseases, such as diabetes or hypertension
  • Skin diseases, such as psoriasis or inflammations
  • Allergies to anesthetics
  • Use of certain medications, such as anticoagulants
  • Blood clotting disorders.
