The vast majority of liposuction procedures occur without any issues, but it is important to remember that every surgery carries some risks. However, you do not need to worry – our surgeons are well-prepared for any situation and are always here to help. To ensure everything goes smoothly, you must inform your doctor about your health condition. If you have any concerns, remember that we are happy to answer all your questions.

Before the Procedure

To ensure a quick and safe recovery after the procedure, we encourage you to take the following steps before visiting the clinic:

On the day of the procedure, you should be fasting – no food and drinks are allowed. If you are on regular medication, such as for hypertension or other cardiac conditions, take your usual morning dose with a small amount of water. Any other chronic medication requires consultation with your doctor, especially diabetes and epilepsy medications, etc. Special attention is paid to blood-thinning medications, such as Acard, Polocard, Aspirin, Polopiryna, Xarelto, Pradaxa, Sintrom, Acenocumarol, or Warfarin which we always ask about, and the cessation period for each drug is determined based on its effect on blood clotting – inform your doctor if you are taking such medications.

zdrowe odrzywianie

Smoking is harmful, of course, if you smoke, stop at least a day before and absolutely do not smoke on the day of the procedure, or in the postoperative days – smoking causes bronchospasm, increases respiratory resistance, and problems with ventilation of the lungs during anesthesia and in the perioperative period. Diet and exercise are recommended regardless of the planned surgery and have long-term effects on the body, but implementing them immediately before surgery does not affect the operation or postoperative recovery.

Uprawianie sportu

Drinking alcohol on the day before and on the day of surgery is strictly contraindicated.

The Procedure

Before the proper part of liposuction begins, the fat tissue is injected with an anesthetic solution, so there is no need to fear pain. Depending on the extent of the procedure, local, epidural, spinal or general anesthesia is used.

The surgeon then tunnels and extracts the fat cells. Up to 3.5 liters of fat can be removed during a single session. Throughout your visit to the clinic, our staff will be available to help and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The duration of the procedure varies depending on the area being treated, ranging from 1.5 to 3 hours. The procedures are performed using modern equipment with vibrating cannulas, such as MicroAire.

After the Procedure

After liposuction, you will need to wear special compression garments. Symptoms like hypersensitivity, numbness, swelling, and redness may occur – this is a natural reaction of the body that typically subsides after about 4-6 weeks. You may need to rest at home for 2-4 weeks before returning to your daily duties and work. Keep in mind that the skin may initially appear a bit loose after the procedure, but it will gradually regain elasticity and adapt to your new contours. Make sure to observe your body and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any doubts. We will do everything we can to assist you.

The healing time is highly individual and depends on the extent of liposuction, typically taking 4 to 6 weeks. You can start regular physical activity after about 4 weeks, while more intense sports can be resumed after approximately 2-3 months.

Long car and air travels, which involve long-term immobility should be avoided during the postoperative period (up to 4 weeks), as they can they exacerbate swelling and increase the risk of developing blood clots. Alcohol should also be avoided during the same period. We recommend the use of anti-swelling medications, such as, eg. herbal Aescin (tablets and cream or ointment). Follow-up visits will be planned individually for each patient.

QUESTIONS

  1. Can the fat accumulate again in the treated areas after the procedure?
During liposuction, some of the fat cells are removed from your body, so weight gain will likely occur in areas where the procedure was not performed. However, poor eating habits could cause the fat to return. It is important to maintain healthy lifestyle, eat well and exercise.
  2. Will scars from the procedure be very visible?
The resulting scars are usually small and tend to heal well – they are just tiny punctures made for inserting cannulas. Over time, they shouldn’t be noticeable, but you can aid their healing by moisturizing them, avoiding sun exposure, and using scar treatments such as Dermatix or Contractubex.
  3. Why is it necessary to wear compression garments?
Compression garments help prevent swelling and allow the skin to adapt to new to new body contours.
  4. Is liposuction permanent?
Yes, it permanently removes fat cells, but keep in mind that this does not mean that you cannot gain weight at all. Fat will accumulate in other parts of the body that have not undergone surgery.
  5. Are there less invasive alternatives to liposuction?
There are conservative methods, such as ultrasound treatments, but they are not as spectacular, quick, or effective as liposuction. Additionally, they require multiple sessions.
